Beta-Carotene Reduces the Risk For Some, But Can Be Dangerous For Others

Friday July 15, 2005
Beta-carotene is a antioxidant found in many fruits and vegetables. Research tells us that it can reduce the risk of cancer, just like other antioxidants.

Logically, many people think they can receive the nutrient by taking a beta-carotene supplement instead of eating fruits and veggies. Sounded like a good idea to me until I read a study in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute about supplemental beta carotene. I found that supplemental beta carotene can be harmless for some, but for others it actually increased the risk of cancer!
