Eva Longoria Spokeperson for Childhood Cancer Foundation
Monday September 5, 2005
Eva Longoria, star of Desperate Housewives, is on a mission to get the word out about a childhood cancer organization geared to latino families in the United States. Padres Contra El Cancer (Parents Against Cancer) mission is to improve the quality of life in children with cancer and their families. What impressed me was that the organization meets the needs of the entire family, not just the child's. According to the website, "Due to language and cultural barriers, Latino parents typically understand 50 percent less than non-Latino families about childhood cancer and effective methods for its treatment."
For more information, visit the Padres Contra El Cancer site, or call (323) 850-7901.

I think this is a great idea. I am Native American, but my daughter has Leukemia and I see people all the time that dont speak English at the Treatment Facility. It seems like a good Idea to help them understand more about the disease. Cancer is a scarey thing especially if you dont understand it. Its scarey for me and I speak English, but were talking about my childs life. Your doing great work.
It is a good idea to help children and their families deal with cancer, however, why does it have to be limited to the hispanic race. What if someone started a foundation for the caucasian race? I’m sure that person would be critizied for starting a foundation limited to only caucasians! I feel that children with cancer no matter what race should have the same quality of life offered to them!
I think the foundation should be for everyone and not limited to only the hispanic race!
