How is HPV Treated?

HPV is a common virus that is responsible for cervical cancer and has been linked to several other types of cancer. It is estimated that over 20 million Americans are diagnosed with HPV.

There is an HPV test available for women, however there is no lab test at this time for me. The presence of genital warts indicates an HPV infection and can usually be visially diagnosed by a physician.

HPV treatment varies from men to women. In women, HPV causes changes to occur in the cervix that could potentially become cancerous. The Pap smear is a woman's best method for detecting these changes.

Men may not display any HPV symptoms, except for genital warts. These warts are normally treated with an in office topical treatment.
