Israeli PM Ahud Olmert Has Prostate Cancer

In a news conference held by Ehud Olmert, he disclosed that he has been diagnosed with early stage prostate cancer. The cancer will not interfere with his duties as Prime Minister and is not life threatening, he stated in the conference. Olmert is scheduled to undergo surgical treatment, but doctor say he will not need chemotherapy or radiation therapy.

What You Need to Know About Prostate Cancer

Did you know that it is estimated that over 234,000 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer this year? Even worse, about 27,000 men will die of the disease this year. Prostate cancer is currently the third leading cause of death among men.

What can men do for prevention and early detection? There are several things men can do to be proactive about their prostate health.
  1. Undergo prostate cancer screening at appropriate age. (See current prostate cancer screening guidelines.)
  2. Know and be able to recognize prostate cancer symptoms.
  3. Familiarize themselves with the risk factors of prostate cancer.
  4. Discuss prostate cancer risk with doctor.
