Tanorexia: Could You Be Addicted to Tanning?

Saturday March 22, 2008
Researchers at Wake Forest University may have solved the question as to why many men and women still tan despite being aware of the dangers. These tanorexics, or people who obsessively tan, may have an addiction to the UV rays of tanning beds, even experiencing a 'high', much like a drug addiction. Could you be addicted to tanning?

I actually had a tanning bed in my home for the past 12 years or so and LOVED the convenience. I lived in Illinois all my life and when it wasnt snowing and cold it was just too darn humid to lay out for any length of time. I tanned at least 2 times a week - even 10 years before I had my own bed. Now I live in Arizona and of course dont have any need for it - 45 mintues in the sun here is enough for me to stay dark. If I get skin cancer then I will deal with it but I have been a sun worshiper since I was a kid and I am 49 now -
