Friday May 30, 2008
As you may have heard, actor Patrick Swayze has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, a disease that normally has a very low survival rate. Despite doctor's statements reassuring us that Swayze has a "limited amount of disease and is responding well to treatment", tabloid reports have speculated that his illness is terminal.

Swayze has issued a statement through People magazine saying he is currently responding well to treatment and continues to be treated at Stanford. He adds that he has been traveling, which is defintely a good sign. Read People magazine's feature on Patrick Swayze...

What You Need to Know About Pancreatic Cancer

I hope each of you take the time to learn about this devastating cancer, in hopes to raise awareness for yourself and those around you. People aren't as knowledgeable about pancreatic cancer as breast or prostate cancer, but it is just as a debilitating disease.

Unfortunately, there is often a delay in diagnosing pancreatic cancer because pancreatic cancer symptoms are similar to those of many other illnesses.

There are several risk factors for pancreatic cancer, including having diabetes and chronic pancreatitis. If you are at risk for pancreatic cancer, talk to your doctor about your risk factor and how to monitor for pancreatic cancer if needed. Keep in mind though that some people with pancreatic cancer do not have any clear risk factor or symptoms of the disease.

The bottom line is that if you are experiencing any pancreatic cancer symptoms, or anything unusual, see a doctor. Early detection is key with any condition!

PLEASE! Everyone start forcing an exchange of information about pancreatic cancer. Talk about it, bring it up to your physicians. If you have Diabetes don’t except the idea that it is it’s own isolated problem with symptions that need controlled. It is one of three diseases of the pancreace. Breast cancer has a very high cure rate now but it didn’t until doctors and researchers started LOOKING for it. Pancreatic Cancer is not as rare as they say. Think about it. Start talking to people, count how many realives or loved ones, of people you know, that has lost someone. My sister died August 23rd 2007. She had had strong symptions for 7 to 8 months, six of which she was feed pain pills and antacids. She sleep sitting up in a chair for 4 months because of the extreem pain in her side and back made it impossible to lay down. After three trip to the emergy room of a local hospital, for pain, it took one blood test, one of the imaging tests, now done easily, and the medical professionals were 90% sure that it was pancreatic cancer. Finally, a biopisy showed that it had traveled to her lungs ahd liver. When the doctors decided to “LOOK” for it the cancer was diagnosised with in 7 days. My siser spent 8 horrific months struggling to live. She had contracted diabetes 3 years earlier.
