Johnson and Johnson Foot Cream May Increase Your Risk of Cancer Death

Monday June 9, 2008
The FDA announced that a warning will be added to the label of Johnson and Johnson's Regranex Gel, a topical cream used to treat leg and foot ulcers in diabetics. The labels advises that use of the gel may increase the risk of dying from cancer.

The addition of the advisory label stems from a study that found that although the cream did not raise the risk of developing cancer, it did increase your risk of dying from cancer five-fold. This was found in individuals who used three or more tubes of Regranex.

What to Do If You Use(d) Regranex

Your first step should be to talk to your doctor. The FDA is currently advising that Regranex only be applied when the benefits of using the cream outweigh the risks. Remember, only your doctor can determine the right method of treatment for you.
