Breastfeeding May Reduce Your Risk of Certain Types of Breast Cancer

Monday September 1, 2008
A new study has gained specific insight about the protection breastfeeding may have against breast cancer. A new study published in the medical journal Cancer, shows that some estrogen receptor positive and estrogen receptor negative breast cancer types are less common among women who have breastfed their infants for at least six months.

Why the decrease among women who have breastfed? The fact remains unclear, but there have been other studies with similar findings. We do know that carrying a child to term may reduce the breast cancer risk for some women, and perhaps it is somehow related. The bottom line is that there are many benefits of breastfeeding for both mom and baby and breast cancer prevention may be one of them. It id certainly a subject that will be explored futher to determine if breast feeding does provide protection and why.
