Australian Tanning Salons Post Cancer Warnings

Tuesday September 2, 2008
Australian tanning salons are now required to warn customers about the potential cancer risk of UV exposure through tanning beds. A federal judge has mandated that all tanning salon locations and salon websites inform clients that tanning causes damage to the skin that may cause cancer.

The question remains is if other tanning obsessed societies like the U.S. will follow in Australia's footsteps. I wonder would it really prevent men and women from frequenting tanning salons? After all, we do post health warnings on cigarette packaging, but does it deter millions of smokers from lighting up every day? I don't think so. I believe that Australia's example is a positive step, but I cannot help but to think that the warning signs will be printed in the tiniest of fonts will be posted in unnoticeable places within salons.
