Paul Newman Succumbs to Cancer

Saturday September 27, 2008
Actor Paul Newman has lost his battle with cancer at age 83. The screen legend's failing health had been speculated upon by the media for months, however, no public statement was ever made except to say that Newman was in good health. Newman was a private man in life, so it comes as no surprise as he would want to spend his last days privately, as well.

The actor died Friday among family at his farmhouse in Connecticut. According to several news reports, Newman was given only weeks to live and chose to die at his home. He is survived by his wife, actress Joanne Woodward, five children, and two grandchildren.

We all have our favorite memories of Paul Newman. For me, it wasn't his role in any specific movie, it was every character he played that I will fondly remember. Despite being such a private person, he made himself accessible through his generous charitable work during his life. We ate his salad dressing, cookies, and even fed our dogs his Newman's Own dog food. Paul Newman was a person that genuinely cared about others and we couldn't help but to care right back about him.
