Major Study Finds HRT Use Increases Cancer Risk

A major study conducted by the Womens Health Initiative claims the use of hormone replacement therapy to relieve menopausal symptoms greatly increases the risk of breast cancer and other types of cancer in women. The study, presented at the San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium, supports other studies that have yielded similar results. Specifically, researchers have discovered a link between cancer and the use of combined progestin and estrogen hormone replacement therapy. The good news is that the risk declines after the drug is discontinued. Researchers also believe that breast cancer that arises from HRT use is easier to treat and women are much less likely to die from it
