A Strong Marriage is Key to Sucessful Cancer Outcome

Monday December 22, 2008
I recently read an article in the Washington Post that featured highlights of a study that claimed that marriage may affect breast cancer recovery in women. Women whose marriages were unstable or going through a "rough patch" were more likely to have ill health consequences in recovery. Women whose marriages were considered strong were less likely to experience a poor recovery.

Stress is a major factor in any type of treatment outcome, whether it be breast cancer or any other type of cancer. Most people consider their marriage to be a top priority and when it is in disarray, it's hard to focus on recovery. This can lead to delayed recovery, poorer prognosis, and increased risk of related health problems.
