FDA Issues Pistachio Warning

By , About.com GuideApril 1, 2009

The FDA has issued a warning to consumers to avoid pistachio nuts -- they may be carrying salmonella, a bacteria responsible for food poisoning. People undergoing cancer treatment must especially heed this warning due to possible compromised immune systems because of treatment. It will be even more difficult for their bodies to fight off a bacterial infection. Foods like nuts are often recommended to people with cancer because they are healthy energy boosters and a good source of protein.
