Anti-Cancer Therapy for Fido? FDA Approves Cancer Drug for Dogs

By , About.com Guide   June 5, 2009

Follow me on:

Man's best friend finally has a cancer drug to call his own. For the first time, the FDA has approved a cancer drug to be used in dogs. Pfizer's Palladia, a drug that targets mast cell tumors in canines, is the first cancer drug developed for specific veterinary use. Currently, dogs with cancer are treated with limited chemo drugs designed for use in humans.

Verterinary oncologists (yes, vet oncologists do exist!) are optimistic about the new drug. This pharmaceutical breakthrough really paves the way for future cancer treatment and management of our four legged friends. Want to know more about Palladia and the management of cancer in dogs?
