Doctor Who Treated Her Own Breast Cancer at South Pole Dies

Jerri Nielsen Fitzgerald, the doctor who diagnosed and treated her own breast cancer at the South Pole has succumbed to the disease. The 57 year old was a fighter at the start - doing a biopsy on herself and administering chemotherapy with the help of her co-workers, many of whom were not medical professionals.
Her cancer went into remission, only to return in 2005. She passed away at her home in Southwick, Mass.
