Farrah Fawcett Missing From Oscars Tribute

By , About.com Guide   March 8, 2010

Follow me on:

As I was watching the 'In Memoriam' tribute segment of the Oscars last night, I noticed one name was absent from the slideshow: Farrah Fawcettt. As you know, Farrah died last summer, succumbing to her long battle with anal cancer. I have to wonder why the snub? Farrah remains a Hollywood icon and for her to be left out is unfortunate. She isn't the only one who was left out of the tribute, however. Bea Arthur, who died of cancer last year, was also noticeably absent from the segment.

According to several news sources, a spokesperson from the Oscars said that they simply cannot include everyone in the tribute. I found it a little odd that they chose to include Michael Jackson, who had little film contribution in his career. Don't get me wrong, MJ had immense talent that will never be replicated, but I believe a Grammy tribute would be much more fitting to pay homage  than an awards ceremony for film. What a shame that Farrett and Bea were not included in the Oscar memoriam. And to read that an Oscar spokesman is quoted as saying ” they simply cannot include everyone in the tribute.” The truth of the matter is that they didn’t do their homework, imo!

Leaving Farrah Fawcett out was a really bad choice. Farrah was such an Icon. Most of her work was on TV, but she did many feature films and some really good ones. Saying they had to leave some people out is just a lame excuse.

Sorry, but Michael in the spot was totally not needed. He did one film, The Wiz and that was a bomb. MJ was a great entertainer but not really sure if your pressed for time you would choose him over an actress who has done over 10 feature fims.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences should take out a full page ad in Variety and the Hollywood Reported apologising – and giving a proper tribute to Farrah Fawcett.

For the Academy rep to try and say Farrah wasn’t a movie actress was a cop out and completely wrong.

Her first movie was in 1969 (Un homme qui me plaît) and her last in 2004 (The Cookout).
Farrah appeared in at least 14 theatrical movies with leading men such as: Robert Duvall, Jeff Bridges, Burt Reynolds, Richard Gere, Danny Clover, Chevy Chase and Harvey Keitel, Jean Paul Belmondo, Michael York, Charles Grodin.
Her films include: Logan’s Run, Extremities, Dr. T and the Woman, The Apostle, The Cannonball Run, See you in the Morning, Sunburn, Somebody Killed her Husband, Saturn 3, Man of the House, The Cookout, The Lovemaster, Love is a Funny Thing and Myra Breckinridge.

Come on Academy – admit you got it wrong leaving her out of your In Memoriam segment.

For heaven’s sake – in the days before the Awards, columnists were even speculating about where Farra would be placed – expecting she would draw a large round of applause mid way through. See the New York article at http://nymag.com/daily/entertainment/2010/03/who_will_get_the_pimp_spot_in.html

The Academy was wrong, wrong, wrong to leave her out.

And you can tell them so….

Michael has been in eight feature films, besides he’s DEAD, how the hell is it his fault that Farrah wasnt included, people can be so ignorant its unbelieveable. He was an actor although he was not primarily known for that because he was the worlds biggest entertainer. But you cant say he doesnt belong their as much as Farrah, The academy should have made the segment a bit longer cut a few speeches short. Blame the academy not MJ , give the man a break ,hasnt he suffered enough because of the media bloodsuckers and public haters when he was alive?.Geez.

1978 The Wiz
1986 Captain EO
1988 Moonwalker
1997 Ghosts
2002 Men in Black II
2004 Miss Cast Away and the Island Girls
2009 Michael Jackson’s This Is It

Michael Jackson’s “This is it” film is the highest grossing documentary of all time making 260 million dollars surpassing michael moores farenheight 9/11 that made 222.6 million. so yes he does deserve to be there. RIP to them Both.

If they can’t include everybody who died in the film industry, cut it down to those who have died recently or why bother paying tribute to anybody? All in the film industry who have died deserve a tribute!!

“Hollywood is eroding and killing its actors” that’s what a Hollywood physiatrist was suggesting today after learning of the drug induced death of Corey Haim. Apparently the former teen actor was found dead in his apartment by his mother. You know I think it’s crazy…how you see all these smiling faces at the Oscars and everyone envies them… but what’s going on beneath the surface? I learned more here.

This is the reason I never watch the Oscars to think they would show MJ a pedifile that killed himself with drugs vs a wonderful actor that fought a great fight and suffered from a horrible illness. The Oscars are all about politics and money nothing more.

I had also noticed immediately how farrah Fawcett was left out. She deserved to be recognized afterall she is an icon. She was definitely more of an icon than Brittney Murphy (no offense to Brittney Murphy)

Oscar is over glorified, it is shallow and if you want to
see some nice dresses or make fun of not so nice that is all
that Oscar is good for….

but, it is good to pinpoint flaws in it – just to prove how
trivial it is. And also maybe next year somebody will do
better job…or not. I would not waste my time watching it
cause dresses are not my thing…
Have a nice Saturday!!

We lost a wonderful talent this year….Bea Arthur. The Oscar’s might have forgotten Bea but I haven’t.

I found this clip of Miss Arthur’s final interview with Bea discussing her career in her own words. The clip also shows Betty White, Carol Channing and Phyllis Diller. I think it’s for a show called, “Lunching with a Legend.”

I’d hate for a full interview with Bea or the other legendary ladies in the clip to go unseen.
