Feeling Unappreciated As a Caregiver

By October 29, 2012

Being a caregiver to someone with cancer can be one of the most rewarding experiences, but is definitely not easy or stress-free. Watching someone you love undergo surgery or countless treatments can be emotionally taxing. As much as you love someone, providing care can be difficult. The stress can bring a myriad of emotions -- many of which you may never expect like resentment or feeling unappreciated.

Recently, a reader emailed and had felt unappreciated by her recently diagnosed fiance. She felt he no longer valued her efforts and recognized her sacrifices. This reader's concerns are certainly valid and shared by so many caregivers. Read my response to her email, which gives tips for all caregivers.

Good sound, practical advice. the first step to helping caregivers is to allow them to speak up. No help or support can be offered to a caregiver without having an environment of openness and encouraging the truth. Kudos to all caregivers and you are never unappreciated. Someone cares for you, its just that you havent spoken up. So speak up and say the truth.
