Patrick Swayze Suffering from Pancreatic Cancer

News reports started rolling in yesterday that actor Patrick Swayze was diagnosed with and is being treated for pancreatic cancer. It has been confirmed and reports today from Swayze's rep read that the Ghost star is being treated with early stage pancreatic cancer and that his prognosis is good.

What You Need to Know About Pancreatic Cancer

I hope each of you take the time to learn about this devastating cancer, in hopes to raise awareness for yourself and those around you. People aren't as knowledgeable about pancreatic cancer as breast or prostate cancer, but it is just as a debilitating disease.

Unfortunately, there is often a delay in diagnosing pancreatic cancer because pancreatic cancer symptoms are similar to those of many other illnesses.

There are several risk factors for pancreatic cancer, including having diabetes and chronic pancreatitis. If you are at risk for pancreatic cancer, talk to your doctor about your risk factor and how to monitor for pancreatic cancer if needed. Keep in mind though that some people with pancreatic cancer do not have any clear risk factor or symptoms of the disease.

The bottom line is that if you are experiencing any pancreatic cancer symptoms, or anything unusual, see a doctor. Early detection is key with any condition!

When You Can't Afford Your Cancer Meds...

"I have stage 3 cervical cancer. I take 5 differerent medications a day, 3 of them my insurance does not cover. The cost is killing me! I am faced with with not being able to pay my car payment or stopping the medication. If my car gets respossessed, then I have no way of getting to the doctor or to work! If I can't make it to work, then I lose my insurance coverage. Is there anyone who can help me?"
    Peggy, Ottawa, IL

Unfortunately, Peggy's situation is all too common. Not being able to pay for much needed medication can have a domino effect, wreaking financial and emotional havoc on patients' lives.

What most people don't realize is that there are many programs to help patients who can't afford drugs or care, like Peggy. You just have to know who to ask and where to look. There is even help for those who have insurance coverage and can't afford co-pays or drugs that aren't covered by insurance. Check out "Free and Low Cost Prescription Drug Assistance", where you will find information on programs that can help.
