Bovine Cartilage as an Alternative Cancer Treatment

What is Bovine Cartilage

Bovine cartilage has been a possible alternative treatment for cancer since the mid 1970's, when it was discovered that the cartilage blocks the formation of new blood vessels. Because of this, a cancerous tumor would not be able to grow, therefore shrinking its size and possibly disappearing altogether.

It is also suggested that bovine cartilage strengthens the immune system and contains a substance that actually kills cancer cells.

Bovine cartilage is taken from different parts of a cow, most often from the trachea.

History of Bovine Cartilage

Bovine cartilage was first used in human research in 1972, when Dr. John Prudden administered the cartilage to a group of 31 people suffering from various types of cancer.

In his study, Dr. Prudden discovered that over half of his patients had cancer symptoms disappear, though it was noted that some patients underwent professional treatment for their cancer at the same time as taking the bovine cartilage.

Similar studies have since been done on cancer patients, but none have shown the same result as the study done by Dr. Prudden.

How Bovine Cartilage is Used as an Alternive Cancer Treatment

In studies done with humans, bovine cartilage has been administered by mouth, applied either on the surface of the skin or injected underneath, or given as a liquid enema.

A typical dosage or time span of treatment has not been determined, since in studies it depended on the individual as well as which method was used for administering.

Where to Obtain Bovine Cartilage

Bovine cartilage has not been approved by the FDA as a drug for treating cancer, but can be purchased as a dietary supplement from health food stores and online.
