What is Anal Cancer?

Simply put, anal cancer is cancer that develops in the anus, the opening of the rectum, which allows feces to pass from the large intestine to outside of the body.

Anal Cancer Causes

While research is entirely sure of what causes anal cancer, they have identified a number of risk factors for the disease. A risk factor is something that increases your chances of developing a disease, not guarantees you will develop it.

Symptoms of Anal Cancer

Prognosis

Anal cancer can be deadly. In the U.S., it is estimated that over 600 people will die of anal cancer this year. However, people do respond well to treatment and when detected early, prognosis is very good.
