Adjuvant Therapy

Definition: Additional treatment given after the primary or main treatment to reduce the chance that the cancer will return. Adjuvant therapy eliminates cancerous cells and tumors that may be undetectable because they are too small.
Pronunciation: ah-joo-vant thayr-uh-pee
Common Misspellings: adjuvent therapy
Examples: In cervical cancer patients, chemotherapy is often given after radiation as an adjuvant therapy.
