Definition: a yellow-green colored fluid that is produced by cells in the liver (hepatocytes) and stored in the gallbladder. Bile aids in the digestion of fats that come from our diet. It is composed of cholesterol, water, bile salts, and pigments. Gallstones are formed from hardened bile that is stored in the gallbladder. Back-up or obstruction of the flow of bile out of the liver can lead to jaundice.
