Definition: A hollow, elastic organ in the body that serves as a reservoir for urine. Like other organs in the body, the bladder is susceptible to infections and disease, including cancer.

Bladder cancer affects about 70,000 people each year in the United States. The American Cancer Society estimates that the chance that a man will develop bladder cancer is 1 in 27. For women, the risk is much less -- about 1 in 85.
