June Pointer, the youngest of the Pointer Sisters trio, has died of cancer at Santa Monica University of California, Los Angeles, Medical Center. She had been hospitalized since February due to an undisclosed type of cancer. She was 52.

The Pointer Sisters achieved great fame in the 80's with hits like "I'm So Excited," and "Fire". They are better remembered for their soundtrack hit "Neutron Dance" featured in Beverly Hills Cop.

June was known to be the more extroverted member of the group, posing for Playboy and releasing solo albums. Fame eventually led to a drug problem and she was arrested two years ago on possession of cocaine.

Funeral arrangements were not immediately disclosed. Pointer is survived by three sisters and two older brothers.
