Question: Causes of Colon Cancer

What are the causes of colon cancer?

Answer: We don't know the exact causes of colon cancer at this time. However, we do know that there is a genetic mutation that can be passed down that significantly increases a person's risk factor for developing colon cancer. The inherited gene causes a syndrome called hereditary nonpolyposis colon cancer (HNPCC). Genetic counseling and testing is available for those with a family history of colon cancer.
