Question: Colon Polyps

What are colon polyps?

Answer: In terms of colon cancer, colon polyps (pronounced pah-lips) are extra tissue that grow inside your body. Colon polyps grow in the large intestine. Most cases of colon cancer develop from polyps, generally taking between 5-10 years to become cancerous. However, most of these tissue growths are benign and harmless. Most polyps are removed for preventive measures. The polyp is removed during colonoscopy, sigmoidoscopy, or through the abdomen. The colon polyp is then taken to a pathology lab and screened for cancer.
