Linda's Story: I Lost My Hair to Chemotherapy

having a good time before chemo....

Linda's Story: I Lost My Hair to Chemotherapy

this hair is attached to cap!!!

How Long After Treatment Began Did You Lose Your Hair?

it started much sooner than i had expected, about 2weeks

Did You Lose It Gradually or Very Quickly?

pretty quickly, i had lovely long hair and i would see them float past me.

What Was Your First Reaction When You Noticed the Loss?

made sure i had a supply of wigs.

Were You Tempted to Shave Your Head? Did You Do It?

no shaving, but did have it cut real short, short. about an inch long.....and then i was bald soon after.

Did You Choose to Wear a Head Covering or Not?

yes...ALWAYS had my bald head covered...mostly a wig, but sometime a scarf. seeing my bald head in the mirror was far too upsetting for me.

How Did Losing Your Hair Affect Your Everyday Life?

not at all in a negative way....i love to shop so i had acguired quite a wardrobe of hair styles , colors and lengths.a wig selected for the outfit i was wearing.

it was fun to surprise my friends with a different look . everyone had their favorite. of course i like the long ones, but in hot weather i wear a short bob wig...they are hot.

Advice

  • check out local cancer centers for free wigs and a class called " look good feel better"... lots of good advice and free quality makeup ( not supposed to use makeup from before due to bacteria). they teach you all about scarf tying and how to make great head covering from a tee shirt.( not your favorite one, cause you do have to cut it).
  • focus on the positive...attitude is very important .
  • eat as healthy as possible....
